Very rarely in the NBA does a rookie get an opportunity to play major minutes for a championship contender. However, that is the new unique situation that fantasy basketball prospect, Doug McDermott finds himself in going into the 2014-2015 season with the Chicago Bulls.

After having four outstanding seasons at Creighton, the forward is going to play major minutes this year. He could actually play a big role in deciding the Eastern conference.

Now that Luol Deng is long gone, the Chicago Bulls are looking at either Mike Dunleavy or McDermott to play major minutes at small forward. Both should get plenty of playing time, but one of those guys will be asked to start and finish important games.

Dunleavy might get the early nod since he is a veteran who has produced in the past, but McDermott is certainly looking sharp as well.

The one knock on Chicago going into the year is that they are not the best at scoring on a consistent basis. The only dependable scorer they have on the roster is Derrick Rose, and he has been dealing with some knee injuries that might rob him some of his patented athleticism.

McDermott is the perfect piece for the offense, as he will be able to perfectly spread the floor as a sharpshooter from the outside.

McDermott is not the perfect rookie by any means, as there are questions about his defense.

Head coach, Tom Thibodeau is somebody who really stresses defense, so McDermott will need to get better to crack the rotation. If he is able to do so, the forward could very well end up being the best and most outstanding rookie in the class.

There is a reason that Chicago was very focused on trying to make sure they obtained the rookie on draft day. He might instantly become one of their top scorers either as a starter or off the bench.
