Fantasy football owners should  bench Washington Redskins Wide Receiver  Jordan Reed in Week 2.

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III  confirmed with media on Wednesday that Jordan Reed would indeed miss Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. RG3 said, “He [Reed] is a big loss, a great player.” This shouldn’t come as a surprise to many owners out there.  Head coach Jay Gruden had already speculated that Reed would be on the sidelines “for some time”.

“We’ll see how it goes with the trainer. It’ll probably be a week, or two, or three. We’ll see,” Gruden said.

Reed is currently owned by 74 percent of fantasy owners in Yahoo Sports, and owned by 88 percent of ESPN FF Owners.

Rotoworld suggests it will be a big loss for Reed owners this week, stating “The Jaguars were shredded by tight ends in 2013 and gave up a 6-91-1 line to Eagles tight ends last Sunday. It’s a tough game for Reed owners to miss out on.”

Options: For those who have no other TE options, it may be time to drop Reed and head to the free agent market. However, if you have the points to give, bench Reed and start your backup. There’s no telling how long he’ll be out, so it’s a risk either way.  Owners should also create an alert to keep up with Reed during Week 2 to determine what to do next.

Best Free Agent Pickup: Consider Jeff Cumberland of the New York Jets. He got some looks Sunday, catching four passes for 50 yards in the Jets’ Week 1 win over Oakland.
