The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate to the Texas Rangers, continue earning Texas League Awards. Royce Bolinger, Riders infielder and outfielder, has been named Texas League Player of the Week. This comes after a phenomenal week, including a massive performance in a double-header. He joins RoughRiders pitchers Yohander Mendez and Collin Wiles, who both earned their own Texas League Weekly Awards, announced Monday.

Here’s the key info on Bolinger, from RidersBaseball.com. Bolinger hit .412 (7-17) with a double, three home runs and five RBIs in five games last week. All three of his home runs came during Saturday’s double-header, including his first-career multi-homer game in game one of the twin bill.

The double-header featured amazing performances by the entire team as a whole. In addition to Bolinger’s action, the RoughRiders pitching staff made key performances. Yohander Mendez threw a complete game shutout in the first matchup. Collin Wiles then threw yet another complete game shutout, in the second game.

Bolinger underwent left knee surgery in 2014. He suffered a sprained left wrist in 2013. The Texas Rangers selected him out of Gonzaga University, in the sixth round of the 2012 Draft. Bolinger was previously selected by the Tampa Bay Rays out of Chapparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, in the 45th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. However, ended up not signing with the club.

Currently this season, Bolinger has a .292 batting average. He has hit five home runs, and has 20 RBIs. This being in a span of 30 games and 106 registered at-bats.

This the second-career weekly award for Royce Bolinger, his first from the Texas League. With Collin Wiles and Yohander Mendez earning Co-Pitchers of the Week, the three Riders are the first Texas League Weekly Award winners of the season for Frisco.
