Collin Wiles led the Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, to a 4-1 win over the Springfield Cardinals Monday night. The young pitcher struck out eight batters, tying his career-high mark. The RoughRiders have now won the first two games of the three-game set, and look for the sweep Tuesday night.

The fourth inning was toughest for Wiles, as he allowed his first hit of the matchup. The Texas League All-Star was pitching to a tough zone but was able to make it work for him. In total, Wiles allowed just two hits and three walks, over seven innings of work. He picked up the win, improving to 7-4 on the season. The outing accounted for Wiles’ eighth quality start of the season.

Starter turned reliever Connor Sadzeck took over for Wiles, coming in to start the eighth inning. Sadzeck walked the leadoff batter, who then stole second base. Sadzeck answered with back-to-back punch outs. However, he hit the next batter and then allowed an RBI single from Magneuris Sierra, which accounted for the only run the St. Louis Cardinals affiliate would get on the board. That would complete Sadzeck’s night for the Frisco RoughRiders, going just 2/3 of an inning.

Joe Filomeno took over Sadzeck and was able to complete the eighth. In the ninth, Filomeno gave up a leadoff single and then a walk. With no outs made in the inning, he was pulled for Ricardo Rodriguez. Rodriguez induced a double play, and then pitched into a flyout to end the game.

All in all, RoughRiders relievers finished with two hits, one run (earned), two walks, and three strikeouts over two innings. The entire pitching staff combined to limit the Cardinals to hitting just 1-7 with runners in scoring position, and five of their runners on base.

Scott Heineman, who just recently won Texas League Player of the Week, was the only RoughRiders player without a hit. He did draw two walks, extending his on-base streak to 19 games.

Jose Trevino continued his offensive prowess from the previous game, hitting a two-run single in the third inning. He finished the matchup 1-4 with two RBIs. In the sixth, the RoughRiders were able to score again, thanks to a fielding error by the Cardinals. A sacrifice fly from Jose Cardona plated one more, making it 4-1 in favor of the RoughRiders. That score would hold to the end.

Juremi Profar put in some work of his own, going 3-3 with some well-hit singles. He was hit by a pitch once and scored one run. Isiah Kiner-Falefa was also hit by a pitch in his 2-2 night, that included a walk and a run scored.
