The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, lost their series opener to the RockHounds, 6-0. Midland starting pitcher Grant Holmes dominated the RoughRiders offense. Frisco’s starting pitcher Collin Wiles was chased off the hill after just 2/3 of an inning. The RoughRiders offense could not get any action in the first game of this four-game set.

Holmes finished his night with 8.0 innings pitched, giving up just two hits. He walked none and had eight strikeouts. The RoughRiders offense managed just three hits in the entire game. Scott Heineman, Andy Ibanez, and Jose Trevino were the three only three players to see any kind of offensive action. The RoughRiders were 0-2 with runners in scoring position, leaving four men on base in the outing.

Collin Wiles

Collin Wiles was not his usual self in last night’s matchup. He tossed just 0.2 innings, giving up three hits and three runs (all earned). He walked two and had two strikeouts. Shane McCain made a long relief appearance. He seemed to get things back on track for the RoughRiders, though it was temporary. He finished the night with 4.1 innings pitched, giving up just two hits and striking out six. Brady Feigl was the last bullpen arm to take over pitching duties. He tossed 3.0 innings and gave up eight hits, three runs (all earned) while striking out four batters.

The RoughRiders continue to fall deeper into last place. They now have a record of 27-34 on the season.

  • With 12 more strikeouts Saturday, Riders pitching has fanned 66 batters over the past six games, striking out at least 10 hitters in each contest.
  • Jose Trevino snapped a 0-29 drought with a single in the eighth, while Michael O’Neill lost his seven-game hitting streak.

The RoughRiders will face Midland again, this afternoon. The matchup is set to start at 2:05 PM CT, from Security Bank Ballpark in Midland, Texas.
