The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, split yesterday’s doubleheader in Midland. The RockHounds, affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, won the first game 6-2, while the RoughRiders took game two 5-3. Pitching was not exactly a highlight for the RoughRiders. With a combined 15 hits in the doubleheader, the RoughRiders were able to find something offensively.

In the first matchup, Midland starter Heath Fillmyer tossed six shutout innings. He appeared to have the RoughRiders number, only giving up three hits in his win. For Frisco, Pedro Payano lasted just 4.2 innings. He gave up six hits and three runs (all earned) while walking four and getting four strikeouts. It was his first loss since arriving in Double-A. Michael De Leon had a single that scored one run in the seventh. Michael O’Neill accounted for the last RoughRiders run, with a RBI double in the seventh.

In game two of the doubleheader, Cody Palmquist starter on the hill for the RoughRiders. He threw three innings, giving up three hits and no runs. David Ledbetter earned his first save of the season, throwing two scoreless innings. Offensively, Frisco was keyed in. Luke Tendler had four RBIs in the game, including a go-ahead RBI double in the sixth inning. Royce Bolinger went 2-3, with a double and two runs.

News and notes on the doubleheader, from RidersBaseball.com:

  • The Riders went 4-4 on the eight-game road trip, splitting series with Corpus Christi and Midland. They have alternated wins and losses in each of the last nine games.
  • Isiah Kiner-Falefa extended his on-base streak to 19 games after reaching safely in both games of the doubleheader.
  • Michael O’Neill has recorded hits in 10 of his first 11 games with the RoughRiders, hitting 13-37 (.351) over the stretch.

The RoughRiders are back home at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas. The club has an eight-game homestand, starting tonight. The San Antonio Missions are first, for a four-game series. Tonight’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CT.
