After seemingly exploding onto the scene with interview features on MAXIM, Playboy, FHM and this website as well, Sydney-based Persian-Australian glamour and swimsuit model, Jasmin Shojai has the world seemingly in her oyster.
The now 23-year-old Shojai, who is half German and half Iranian, was recently crowned “Top Glamour Model” of her native Australia, and is set to properly introduce herself to the rest of the world soon.
In Part II of our two-part Q and A, I talk with Jasmin about how her life as changed since being featured in MAXIM, new avenues opening since being crowned Australia’s Top Glamour Model, her plans to travel and tour and possibly coming to America.
Congrats on being featured in both MAXIM and FHM! How has your life changed since being interviewed by both of those mags? How has your life changed since being interviewed by both of those mags? It's been really remarkable, I have recieved so much amazing feedback from friends, fans and industry professionals. I can honestly say I was so happy and very excited I still remember the morning I woke up, a few hours after my interview with Maxim was released online. I was so happy and proud of myself. As soon as I woke up I had all these people just following me on Instagram and Facebook. This happened for quite a few days. It was huge exposure!
As Australia's Top Glamour Model, what new avenues have opened up for you? Quite a lot. Besides a lot of people in society and in the industry congratulating you and seeing you as a highly professional model. It definitely opens more doors when it comes to modelling work. I had a lot of professionals and even brands wanting to work with me. It was definitely a lot of exposure, even now, it's ongoing, people are recognizing me and all my achievements. I can definitely say magazines tend to be more interested in you when you have such a excellent and a huge 'title'. I can definitely say you get a lot of paid opportunities come your way as well. I don't do modelling purely for the money, it's my biggest passion after all. I suppose it's like with any career. As you go up a level, your income goes higher as well.
Within the industry, who is your inspiration? Its hard to say as well. I don't have any particular supermodel that inspires me. However as I was growing up shows like Next Top Model and The Victoria's Secret Runway Show really inspired me to be a professional model.
What are your favorite cities to travel to? There are so many. On the top of my list, I am aiming to travel to Berlin, New York, LA and Las Vegas first.
Any plans to come to the States? Most definitely, I am planning a tour for next year most likely.
It seems that glamour modeling is SO big in ANZ, Europe and especially the U.K., why do you think that is? I love all genres of modeling really. So when someone asks me is glamour all that you do, I simply say that I do variety of modeling genres, it's apart of my creativity and personality as a model. I believe it's because there is a huge market/popularity for it. And it's open for anyone really. I have seen so many types of women in the glamour model industry. There’s no height requirements, there’s many different body types and that's a really positive thing. Its good to see any genre in the industry embracing all types of models
Congrats on getting engaged to your fiancée, when's the special day and what are your plans? We haven't really planned a wedding day as of yet We are not in a rush and I know most couples would want to get married almost straight away. We are definitely taking our time and enjoying each others company.
Outside of modeling, what are your hobbies? I love working out and going to the beach. If I have something special planned for the day I do my own hair and makeup. Which is always so much fun to do.
Sports question: Who are your favorite teams and clubs? I don't have a particular favorite. However, I always go for Germany in the FIFA World Cup.
With summer now here, what fashion and swimwear trends are hot right now? It's winter in Australia at the moment But I still see a lot of swimwear being advertised over the Internet both overseas and locally. I have to say there's a lot of trends at the moment. There's definitely so much to choose from in the market when it comes to fashion and swimwear. It really depends on what look you are after I have definitely noticed there is a high waisted thong trend happening when it comes to swimwear at the moment.
What is your secret to staying in shape? A healthy diet and good amount of exercise really. Different things work for different people. I eat in several small portions per day (so 6 small meals as opposed to 3 large meals). I also regularly eat lean meat and avoid excessive amounts of sugary foods. I drink a lean protein shake once a day. This really helps in fat burning and developing lean muscle.
What exudes confidence and sexiness? Everyone is different. For me what makes me feel that little bit more sexy and confident comes down to my outfit and makeup, and hair-do as well. I am confident with myself, I do think I am sexy. Like most people, there are certain things that embraces my personality and makes me feel more empowered.
I love stiletto heels, especially the pointed ones, they are so sexy and classy to me, and they make me feel powerful. I love shoulder padded blazers, I love stylish coats, bodycon skirts, I suppose you could say I have a selection of clothing pieces that I love the most. In a way clothing to me is like a way to express myself, and it's almost like a woman's 'weapon'. By just putting on the right outfit it can really empower them.
