Podcasting.

It seems that everyone is doing it now a days, as it is the fastest growing sector of the internet today. With an estimated 17 percent of Americans listening to monthly podcasts and active podcast on iTunes jumping from 10,000 to 60,000 from 2008 to 2015, it is a powerful and consistent force in the world of content marketing.

Thanks to popular podcasting platforms such as the fore-mentioned iTunes, Blogtalk Radio and SoundCloud, it is here to stay.

It’s where we get our daily form of entertainment whether it be sports, politics, Hollywood, music or straight opinion, it is from coast to coast, easily downloadable and instant news analysis.

One podcaster who has been keeping our ears glued on and off the microphone is petite glamour model and actress of the wrestling podcast and platform RELM Network, Sarah Russi.

Russi, a 5’1 native of Boston has applied her various modeling ware for men’s lifestyle magazines such as FHM India and other various brands. Despite not being the stand industry height for a model, the diminutive Beantown babe is quite the powerhouse on social media and during her podcast interviews.

Below is my Q and A with Sarah as we talk modeling, being a vegan, what its like to wear a bra and thong at 1am in Manhattan and flirting with guests on the air.

Tell us about your journey, how it started and how it has been so far? I started modeling when I was around 18. I built up a portfolio by connecting with photographers on Facebook, and when I was 21, I decided to quit my part time job and pursue it full time. It’s been so much fun but challenging. It gives me new goals to work towards all the time, so it never gets boring to me. I love that I get to travel, and I’ve met so many awesome people and made a lot of friends in this industry.

Introduce us to a day in your life If I’m not working that day, I’ll start my day with going for a walk and getting coffee. I’ll still promote myself and social network on those days that I’m off, add to my premium sites, and look through casting calls.

It’s really important to me to keep up with that, so I don’t ever consider any day to be a “day off”. My boyfriend is a photographer, so we may shoot that day if we have new ideas. If it’s a work day, I’m most likely waking up really early because I take hours to get ready because I’m a perfectionist when I’m on camera. I usually do my own hair and makeup.

What kind of model do you consider yourself? (Instagram, pin-up/glamour, fashion) I do a little bit of everything. Mostly boudoir and swimwear, but I would love to do more fashion and pin-up work. I’m too short for most runway work.

Where has been your favorite place to shoot? Manhattan at 1 am, wearing a bra and a thong.

What is the most exciting aspect of modeling? The most exciting aspect is seeing the final result when an image comes out really well, and seeing other people enjoy it. The whole process is fun because I’m getting paid to do what I love and traveling.

So tell us a bit about your wrestle podcast? Vince Russo, a WWE writer, had contacted me and asked me to guest on his podcast. He liked me enough after the podcast that he wanted me to have my own show on his brand. He came up with the name of the show and he introduced me to my co-host Scott. It’s actually a video podcast, so you can watch me in my lingerie interviewing people in the wrestling industry.

As a women and model in such a male-oriented industry as podcasting, what’s it like to play with the boys and go back and forth with them. I try to flirt with all of my guests and make them laugh.

What our your 5 must haves for your handbag? My iPhone, although it’s usually in my hand 24/7. My headphones, because I can’t go anywhere without listening to music. My iPhone charger, because I’m so addicted to my phone. My tanning sunglasses, because I’ve been going tanning almost every day now. And lastly, lip gloss, just in case I need it.

Outside of modeling, what are your hobbies? Cooking, reading, dining, and shopping. I don’t usually go to parties or nightclubs.

What is your secret to staying in shape? Long naked walks on the beach and a cruelty free diet.

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine because we see you have a trim slim figure I actually don’t work out anymore. I used to go to the gym, but I don’t have enough time for it. I just try to stay active by walking at least a mile a day and eating healthy.

What kind of diet do you follow to remain healthy and physically fit? I’ve been a vegetarian for two years and a vegan for one year, and I never count calories. I feel like most of the foods I eat are healthy, because everything is plant based, and I try not to eat too many processed foods. I like to cook and I’ll eat anything without animal products in it, I’m not too picky.

Since you’re a vegan, describe what that has been like for you and why do you like the lifestyle so much? I started as a vegetarian about three years ago, and I’ve been a vegan for two years now. I feel healthier, and I don’t miss any of the old foods I used to eat. I learned how to cook more meals, I found out which food replacements I like and don’t like, and I know what to order when I am dining out. I know this is a much healthier and ethical lifestyle so I can’t see myself ever giving it up.

Being petite, what exactly is a petite model, and is there a market for it? When I call myself a petite model, I mean that I am short and that I also don’t have big curves. I don’t think there’s as big as a market for it, but I have been getting work consistently, so I must be doing something right.

What are your favorite cities to travel to? New York City, Las Vegas, and Boston. NYC tops my list though, I always get the most work there, so I go a few times a month. There’s also some really great vegan restaurants in Manhattan that I check out every time I’m in the area.

What is your best experience as a model on a photo shoot? I had to really think about this question. A lot of them are so special to me. Last year I shot at Red Rock Canyon in Vegas in December, and that was super fun. I once shot in Manhattan in nothing but my underwear around 2 am until 4 am. That may be one of my favorites. It’s kind of a thrill to me to be able to be in public wearing next to nothing and not getting caught.

What is your opinion on the rise in popularity of ‘boudoir’ Is it good, bad or just the new “it” trend? It’s great…I don’t think it’s going to ever go away or become untrendy. Social media has really made glamour modeling become a career that almost anyone can work towards having.

What brands have you modeled for? Which one do you enjoy modeling for the most? There is one in Boston that I have worked with a few times since I have first started modeling five years ago, and it’s a friend’s online store. Their specialty is fangs and Halloween costumes. I’ve modeled both for the company and their colored contacts.

Within the industry, who is your inspiration? I don’t really have any one particular in mind in the modeling industry. I like everyone who can take a great photo, models and photographers both.

As an actress, do you have any favorite movie stars/directors/actresses you’d like to work with? I like Miley Cyrus…She’s very talented and down to earth.

Any short or petite actresses who served as your inspiration (Carla Gugino is my fave!) See above.

What advice would you give to women aspiring to get into modeling? Start early, promote yourself on social media as much as you can, and always check someone’s references. You can’t just trust everyone who has a camera on Instagram.
