Yesterday, rumors were buzzing that the Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Joe Gorga, had found himself in some real trouble. Allegations were made that he was busted for shoplifting at his local Home Depot in New Jersey. Reports said Home Depot had decided not to involve the authorities or pursue legal action, however, Gorga had been permanently banned from the store he regularly frequented.
Today, Gorga is speaking out to clear the air and claim his innocence. While making light of the matter in a recent interview, Gorga stated, “Yeah I got locked up, I’m going to do 30 years. I mean, come on. It’s ridiculous!” Gorga also went on to say, “I’m in Home Depot 10 times a day. I develop buildings. The managers, owners—everybody knows me. It’s bulls**t.” So far, the Franklin Lakes area Home Depot stores have not confirmed the incident.
Gorga may be off the hook as far as the shoplifting allegations, but his troubles don’t stop there—financial troubles, that is. Gorga’s business of buying and renovating buildings seems to be crumbling. It has been reported that Gorga owed at least one bank $2.5 million and put some of his homes on the market to pay mortgage debt. He also allegedly has unpaid bills from contractors for work completed.
Gorga has been the subject of 26 liens and civil judgements, including a window contract with Starlite Window Manufacturing Co. Inc. for over $25,000. And with a current net worth of -$1.5 million, this might be more than just allegations. I’d say the truth is in the numbers.
There seems to be more than Italian tempers that run in the Gorga family. Back on July 29, 2013, Gorga’s sister Teresa Giudice and husband Joe were charged with mail, wire, bank, and bankruptcy fraud in a 39-count indictment. On March 4, 2014, the Giudices entered a guilty plea to 41 counts of fraud. Teresa went on to serve a 15-month prison sentence—released after 11 months—and husband Joe is currently serving out a 41-month prison sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Allenwood, PA.
Perhaps it’s time the Gorgas and Giudices keep their family dinner Sundays to themselves and say arrivederci to reality TV.
