With tensions in the Motor City running at a feverish pace, the Detroit Pistons are facing tough decisions about its future. The most pressing of which is whether to keep big-man Greg Monroe.

According to recent reports, Monroe, whom is set to hit free agency next season, has stated he wants to leave Detroit at any cost. Monroe has since called the reports false.

“To say I was unhappy, losing 13 in a row, you can say that about everybody on the team,” Monroe said.

“Nobody’s happy when you lose 13 games in a row. But as far as where he took it, that was completely false, and it’s really, like, ridiculous to have to come in here and answer questions like this”

Monroe certainly can’t be happy with the team’s direction. Detroit is currently battling Charlotte and Philadelphia for the league’s worst record, and currently sits last in the league with a .409 shooting percentage.

This season, Monroe has remained fairly consistent with his career averages. The forward/center has averaged 15 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 47.6 percent from the field.

With his solid offensive game team’s could certainly want to acquire Monroe before the trade deadline. It is being reported that Detroit is seeking a first-round pick in any deal for the Monroe.

However, head coach and team executive Stan Van Gundy has debunked that report saying the team has neither approached or has been approached by any team. With Monroe set to test the free agent market next year, Detroit would be wise to get something for him by the deadline.

Monroe is likely on borrowed time and  will be out of Detroit, at this point it’s almost guaranteed.
