It has now been over two weeks since James Dobson passed away.

Like Rush Limbaugh, Dobson was an even worse human being who made a direct impact on Christian parents. He believed that children as young as 15 months needed to get spanked with a switch, paddle, or belt yet “rarely with the hand, which is an object of love.”

Even more disturbing is that he taught parents this “if a child cries for more than five minutes after corporal punishment, he or she should be given more of the same punishment.” Also, Dobson said “pain is a marvelous purifier.”

On Facebook there is a reel referencing Dobson specifically about what happens when one cries during a spanking. The individual who shared it said “I took this very seriously as my dad took that even further as when we were spanked if you screamed or cried, he would spank you harder and longer until you were so out of breath, you physically could not cry.” Dobson essentially created child abusers which hardly qualifies him as an honorable person.

Beyond his ignorant views on corporal punishment, Dobson got mentored by Paul Popenoe who believed in eugenics and that those with physical or mental disabilities needed to get sterilized.

Popenoe also believed that education “is tending toward race suicide.” Along with Roswell Hill Johnson who they believed “many a college girl of the finest innate qualities, who sincerely desires to enter matrimony, is unable to find a husband of her own class, simply because she has been rendered so cold and unattractive, so overstuffed intellectually and starved emotionally, that a typical man does not desire to spend the rest of his life in her company.”

Simply put the more educated a woman she becomes unattractive, her ability to nurture is gone, and that means a man will not seek her out for marriage. Nothing like misogyny.

Sarah Moslener of Religious Dispatches wrote in a post that was titled I Will Always Be Afraid of James Dobson “Dobson taught me that women must sacrifice their health, safety, aspirations, and dignity so men might become better versions of themselves.”

Once again this references Dobson’s mentor who believed women should not divorce for any reason. Instead, it was up to the wife to figure out what she had done to make their husbands act the way they do.

Homophobia was a recurring theme for Dobson as well. He blamed the Sandy Hook school shooting on the acceptance of gay marriage and abortion.

Yet surprisingly enough it is obviously clear why he is much more vile than Limbaugh ever was. He played a significant role in how parents raised their children and first hand created child abusing monsters, the misogyny, and blaming tragedies on certain groups.

Still to honor Dobson do what was suggested when it came to Limbaugh. Donate to support victims of child abuse, the LGTBQA community, Planned Parenthood, or any other progressive cause.

So it comes with no surprise that many on social media did not hold back on Dobson. Unfortunately unlike Limbaugh, certain phrases were not trending when his death was announced.
