The Hudson Valley Renegades can notch another one in the win column after they defeated the Staten Island Yankees 6-1 on Thursday night. Starting pitcher Mikey York threw five innings of one-run ball, allowing just one hit and earning the victory. The Renegades, Class A Short Season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, improve to 2-1 on the young season.

It was a great night at Dutchess Stadium for the Renegades and the home crowd. Mikey York had Yankees hitters scratching their heads all night, not allowing a hit until the fourth inning. The runner would come around to score on a passed ball and sac fly but would account for the only action from the Yankees’ offense. Jose Disla and Greg Maisto pitched in relief for the Renegades, each throwing two scoreless innings.

It was Kevin, Bob & Stuart Night at The Dutch, presented by New York Blood Center. Fans were treated to a mascot race around the infield featuring everyone’s favorite Minions. Kevin, Bob & Stuart weren’t the only ones running wildly around the infield, as the Renegades showed off their wheels as well. Vidal Brujan, Isaac Benard, and Oscar Rojas all legged out triples and each came around to score.

Brujan and Emilio Gustave both put together impressive two-hit games, but it was Rojas’ three-hit performance that stole the show. Rojas got the offense moving in the second inning with a triple and came in to score on a wild pitch as the first hit and first run of the game. He added a RBI double the very next inning and a single in the fifth.

It was a great all-around victory for the Renegades who improve to 2-1 on the season. The Yankees’ Juan De Paula was credited with the loss and Oswaldo Cabrera collected their only two hits. The Renegades and the Yankees will play the rubber match of the series at The Dutch on Friday night.
