If you’re a boss or a manager in your workplace, you’ll be aware that there are few qualities as important as learning how to effectively manage people. One of the best ways to do so is to ensure that your employees feel happy and valued at work. Here are some tips on how you can do that…

Give Plenty Of Feedback

First of all, it’s important to give out plenty of feedback. Firstly, this will show that you’re paying attention to what they’re doing, which is good because, for a start, they’ll know that they can’t slack off, and also because they’ll know that their work is important and valued. When something that is produced isn’t up to the standard that you would like it to be, it’s important to give feedback that’s constructive and thoughtful. Frame it as an opportunity for the employee to learn, rather than as a mistake that they have made – this will make the conversation less awkward and will let them know that it’s okay to make mistakes, just so long as they learn from them. It’s just as important to focus on when a great job has been done – make sure they know that you appreciate their hard work by acknowledging work that’s been done to a great standard.

Listen To Them

Asking for feedback is important – and it’s just as important to act on that feedback where you can, whether it’s installing a security light so people feel safe outside the office when it’s dark or even adjusting your own attitude if others have an issue with things that you sometimes do. It’s important to take other people’s ideas and feedback into consideration.

Improve Their Benefits

In an office, there’s only so far that praise can go. If someone’s doing a great job, of course you should acknowledge it and tell them that they are. But you should also push to make sure that they’re recognised further for their hard work – bonuses and raises are important to keep morale high, and if you’re in a position to do so, it’s always good to push higher management for more. Praise is great, but it isn’t going to pay anyone’s rent. You could also look into other employee benefits – from car pools to gym memberships, there are a lot of things out there that will make your employees happy and that will also attract great talent to apply for any new job openings.

Trust Them

Finally, it’s crucial to place your trust in your employees. It can be so easy to micro manage at work – after all, you’re the only person that you thoroughly trust to do a perfect job. But you need to train your employees so that you can entrust them with tasks when you’re not there so that you can feel happy and secure when you take vacation days and sick days. It also feels great to know that you’re trusted by the people you work with – it will raise morale and make people that they can take ownership of their jobs.

There are few things more important than keeping your employees happy – these tips should help lead to a happier and healthier workplace.
