Round 1 Pick 15 – Derek Barnett from Tennessee: Outside Linebacker

After the Colts lost Robert Mathis to retirement and Erik Walden to free agency, it’s clear Indy needs to fill that huge void. Barnett was fantastic in his college career for the Vols and showed great consistency at moving quarterbacks out of the pocket and plugging rushing lanes for opposing backs. The Colts must think defensively considering how much great defensive talent there is in this year’s draft.

Round 2 Pick 47 – Pat Elflein from Ohio State: Guard

Elflien was a three-year starter during his time with the Buckeyes. His first two years he played at guard and showed that he was equally talented at both run and pass protection. His agility also gives him great value for a 2nd rounder. During his All-American senior season, he played center and was the Remington award winner, which is given to the nation’s best center.

Round 3 Pick 79 – Tanoh Kpassagnon from Villanova: Defensive End

This player is going to be the hidden gem of the whole draft. His size (6’6″ 270 pounds), strength, speed, and quickness are something the Colts simply can’t pass up. It is hard to say what he is great at simply because he was absolutely dominant against his opposition which is part of a very weak division 1 conference (CAA). He has everything you look for when it comes to a defensive lineman for a 3-4 defensive scheme.

Round 4 Pick 119 – Taylor Moton from Western Michigan: Offensive Tackle

Western Michigan was a team that was remarkable this last season and Moton is a key reason why. His play at right tackle was fantastic! He has good size and has solid pass blocking ability. His run blocking is good due to his agility and sound fundamentals. The real knock on Moton is he hasn’t gone up against top tier talent. He did, however, play extremely well in this year’s senior bowl. Great option in the fourth round for Indianapolis.

Round 4 Pick 144 – Anthony Walker from Northwestern: Inside Linebacker

Walker is a good fit for the Indianapolis Colts at inside linebacker. He has the size to fight off blockers and help in run defense. He put on 20 pounds coming into the 2016 season but it cost him a little in speed and quickness. With some coaching, he could be a phenomenal future player for the Colts.

Round 5 Pick 160 – Deatrich Wise Jr. from Arkansas: Outside Linebacker

Has great size at 6’6″ and 271 pounds. He could probably drop 15 to 20 pounds to improve his speed and explosiveness off the edge but has great potential. With some conditioning and coaching, Wise could turn into a very good player. The Indianapolis Colts need to focus on adding depth which is another piecewise could give them.

Round 6 Pick 201 – Taywan Taylor from Western Kentucky: Wide Receiver

For the Colts final pick of the draft, adding a player like this would be a fantastic way to finish. The 5’11” 198 pound Taylor had mind-boggling numbers in 2016. He finished with 98 receptions, 1,730 yards, and 17 touchdowns. Normally you would be shocked to see a player like this fall outside of day two. His past seasons were nothing spectacular and his speed is good but not great. He has above average quickness and is a good route runner.
