Some collegiate athletes run into a string of bad luck. Warren Ball from the University of Akron has had his fair share of unfortunate events, but that hasn’t stopped him from playing the game he loves. In fact, it’s only motivated him more.

The Akron Zips aren’t expected to win a MAC Championship. However, if you ask Ball, he’ll probably tell you quite the opposite. That’s the kind of player the sixth-year senior is. No matter how difficult the situation, there is always a silver lining. And with him playing at full health, anything is possible.

One wouldn’t expect a player to transfer from Ohio State to Akron. But after graduating OSU, and with playing time not guaranteed with the Buckeyes,he headed north to Akron.

The Zips offered Ball a starting job on the roster. He came out strong in 2016 with 181 rushing yards during the team’s first two games. Then Ball suffered a season ending injury.

The NCAA would grant Ball a medical hardship, and give him a sixth year of eligibility. As Akron prepares for another season, Ball will look to continue his impressive start from 2016. He’s the clear-cut starter for the Zips. That will remain the case all year if he plays at 100 percent.

A lot of questions on the Akron Zips offense need to be addressed. What’s the status of QB, Tommy Woodson? Will the Wide receiving be able to come through? But, the status and health of Warren Ball is the major issue going into the season. If he’s healthy, the Zips have a shot at making things interesting in the MAC.

It’s a one step at a time process for Ball. Surely there will be an adjustment period for him. But after a few on-field reps against top competition, the nerves should go away. Akron is expecting big things from their star running back this season. Warren Ball is definitely up for the challenge.
