With the third week of the college football season in the books, there’s a lot to recap. There were crazy games all across the board but we’re here to specifically talk about the Atlantic Coast Conference. From the close victories in the Virginia game to the big loss for Georgia Tech. Here is the INSCMagazine ACC Conference Roundup: FSU rallies over Louisville
Florida State 35 Louisville 31: Even with FSU losing Jordan Taylor the Noles managed to snag a victory out of the jaws of defeat in Louisville. Sophomore running back Treshaun Ward lead the team with 126 rushing to help aid Florida State to victory in this game. Louisville had 243 passing yards and added 127 on the ground with three total touchdowns. Unfortunately, his performance wasn’t enough to rally his Cardinals to victory. Florida State improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2015 and takes on Boston College at home next week. Louisville falls to 1-2 and hosts the USF Bulls next week.
Wofford 7 Virginia Tech 27: The Hokies improve to a 2-1 record to start the season after beating Wofford Saturday afternoon. Grant Wells, the Junior transfer from Marshall had a solid day throwing the ball 36 times completing almost 75% of his passes, and had two passing touchdowns to boot. Virginia Tech held Wofford scoreless until the fourth quarter when they scored their only touchdown. The Hokies take on West Virginia in Lane Stadium next weekend.
Purdue 29 Syracuse 32: Garrett Shrader led Syracuse to a gutsy comeback win over the Boilermakers in Syracuse on Saturday. The Purdue defense held the Orange to 306 total yards and still came up short, 181 of those yards came through the air and 112 of which went to Oronde Gadsden II. Aidan O’Connell made it tough on the Cuse throwing for 424 yards and three scores but just came up short. Syracuse who improved to 3-0 on the season hosts Virginia this coming week and could find themselves within the top 25 soon.
Old Dominion 14 Virginia 16: The Cavaliers snuck out a victory this week against the Monarchs in Virginia. It took a 26-yard field goal as time expired to improve Virginia’s record to 2-1. QB Brennan Armstrong had a solid day but was unable to find the end zone at all. The Cavs host the formerly mentioned Syracuse Orange next week and could be one of the top games in the ACC.
Ole Miss 42 Georgia Tech 0: The 20th ranked Ole Miss Rebels rolled into Atlanta and took Georgia Tech out back to the woodshed. In a 42-0 molly whopping Ole Miss came out swinging putting up 21 points in the first half. The Rebels had 547 yards from scrimmage and made it look easy. Yellow Jackets QB Jeff Sims struggled posting a QBR of 21.6. Nonetheless, Georgia Tech falls to 1-2 and heads down to central Florida next week to take on the Golden Knights of UCF.
Liberty 36 Wake Forest 37: In a sloppy game the Demon Deacons pulled out a win against the Liberty Flames to improve to 3-0 on the season. A few bad interceptions by Sam Hartman and the lack of Demon Deacon’s run game kept Liberty in this game longer than they should’ve been. Wake takes on the Clemson Tigers next week at home in a big-time ACC battle.
North Carolina A&T 20 Duke 49: While the Blue Devils may have put up a ton of points this week, it wasn’t as dominant of a win as it looks Duke put up 28 points in the first half and took their foot off the gas in the second half. Duke travels out west next weekend to take on Kansas in a battle of 3-0 teams.
Texas Tech 14 NC State 27: The Wolfpack handed the Red Raiders their first loss of the season in a great game. NC State came into the week ranked 16 and may jump even higher after this week’s performance. While the Wolfpack didn’t have an incredible game they won in a big game that could have a big impact on the remainder of their season. NC State hosts the UCONN Huskies next week who just got annihilated by the Michigan Wolverines.
Pittsburgh 34 Western Michigan 13: Pitt bounced back this week after an OT loss a week ago to Tennessee. Pat Narduzzi started Freshman QB Nate Yarnell after starter Kedon Slovis was banged up in the loss to the Vols. It later came out that Slovis was cleared to play but Narduzzi didn’t want to have to play him if he didn’t need to. That being said in Yarnell’s first start he threw for 179 yards and a touchdown. The offense was run through the run game this week totaling 238 yards. The number 23 ranked Pitt Panthers take on Rhode Island next week in Pittsburgh.
Maine 17 Boston College 38: The Boston College Eagles came out on top of fellow New England school Maine in a convincing fashion. QB Phil Jurkovec had a big day throwing for 320 yards, two touchdowns, and no turnovers. BC got their first win and has a tough matchup next weekend against the 3-0 Florida State Seminoles.
Louisiana Tech 20 Clemson 48: Ever since the departure of Trevor Lawrence it feels like the Tigers have taken a step back but this season they’ve proven they can still be a powerhouse. While they haven’t had any tough matchups they’ve won all three games and done so in a pretty convincing fashion. DJ Uiagalelei threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while Will Shipley carved up the Bulldog’s defense for 139 yards on 12 rushes two of which he found paydirt on. The Tigers take on the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest next week in a top 25 battle.
Miami 9 Texas A&M 17: Well we can confidently say “The U” is not back yet. After the Aggies came off of a loss to Appalachian State last weekend they come out and hold the Hurricanes to just nine points. Tyler Van Dyke only completed 21 of his 41 pass attempts for 217 yards and no touchdowns. Not the type of performance you’re hoping for when you’re in a top 25 matchup. Miami now 2-1 takes on Middle Tennessee State next week.
