The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors at the Staples Center tonight. It appears that the victory came with a price as Kobe Bryant is possibly lost for the rest of the season with an Achilles injury and will undergo an MRI on Saturday to find out the severity.

What  got reported is that it’s likely torn and the speculation that tonight might be the last game of his legendary career. On Twitter Lisa Horne paraphrased Robert Horry.

Kobe’s response on the injury “MRI, surgery, then recovery.” He also added that “I made a move I’ve made a million times, and (the Achilles) just popped. ”

Even worse is his statement of “I can’t walk, I tried to maybe put pressure on my heel, but there was nothing there.”

According to Dr. Mark Schwartz “the average length of recovery was almost 11 months prior to returning, with a minimum of seven months.”

Chauncey Billups on February, 8 2012 tore his and didn’t return to the Los Angeles Clippers lineup until November 28th, meaning that his rehabilitation took nine months.

While it depends on the individual in terms of lenght of recovery  there’s no question that Bryant hasn’t played his last game in the NBA. It’s now a questioo of how effective will he be once he returns? He’s 34 and will turn 35 in August.

His role on the Lakers may change and it will allow him to go out on his own terms.
