Now that it has been announced that Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back Davon House will be released by the team, several sources are also reporting that defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks could be the next player to either be traded or released.

Per Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, strong-side end Jared Odrick was released last month, and on Saturday, a league source said the Jaguars are shopping defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks and will likely release cornerback Davon House in the next few days.

Marks and House are both former starters who lost their spots because of injury (Marks) and performance (House). Their departures would create more than $10 million in salary cap space.

Last season, Marks and House were both critical of the coaching staff for their lack of playing time. While it would be easy to connect the dots, it would also be a stretch to think the Jaguars would cut them for their comments if they still believed they were productive.

Both moves, if made, come right before the NFL’s free-agency period begins. The Jaguars could be in the market for help in the secondary and could seek another pass rusher in a depleted market.

There has been much talk recently by media outlets the Jaguars will use the No. 4 pick in the draft to select an edge rusher, defensive back or take a running back to help the passing game. The Jacksonville Jaguars also have needs on the offensive line, but it would appear none of the players eligible for the NFL Draft warrant being selected that high.

According to O’Halloran, trading or cutting Marks would free up $4.475 million ($200,000 in dead money) in salary cap space.

The Jaguars’ best defensive player in 2013-14, Marks lost his starting spot when the team signed Malik Jackson in the opening hours of free agency. Marks was a late signee in free agency in 2013 and was an immediate help on the defensive line in Gus Bradley’s first season as head coach. Injuries in 2015 and last season played a big role in his diminished production.

He played college at Auburn and was drafted in the second round by the Tennessee Titans in 2009.

House was a free agent signed by the Jaguars in 2015 from Green Bay. His release should come as no surprise as the Jaguars continue to revamp their secondary. Prince Amakumara and Johnathan Cyprien are both being allowed to test the free-agent market.

House was a fourth-round pick in 2011 out of New Mexico State by Green Bay. In his first season with the Jaguars, he broke the Jaguars single-season record for pass deflections with 23.
