The Jacksonville Jaguars may have their veteran wide receiver in their sights, if they are willing to take a chance on a veteran who has some miles on him. But still produces in the clutch.

“Just last week, former New York Giants star Victor Cruz signed with the Chicago Bears, after visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars the week prior,” writes Myles Stedman of Yahoo Sports. “The meeting in Jacksonville clearly did not work out, for one reason or another, but the team is clearly looking for a veteran to fill out that third or fourth receiver slot on their roster. Although Cruz is a former Tom Coughlin man, the Jags were looking in the wrong place anyway. They should be looking at 36-year-old wide out Anquan Boldin.”

While this idea makes a lot of the sense for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Boldin, will it actually happen?

Boldin, a former FSU star and second-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2003, has bounced around the league a bit, making stops in Baltimore and San Francisco – with his last stop in Detroit. The free agent is still looking for a home. Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone, the coaching staff and the roster could benefit from someone on the downside of his career. Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee could all use a little guidance in how to play the position the way Boldin has done the past 15 seasons.

With the right kind of mentoring, it’s possible Robinson could become the top 10 wideout he looked to be in a Pro Bowl season in 2015.

The 2003 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year has something other Jaguars’ players want more than anything – a Super Bowl ring (the one he won with the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII) and three trips to the Pro Bowl. Adding a veteran presence in the past has not worked with the organization – see Torry Holt. But as long as Boldin can be the possession receiver the team needs on third down, signing him could be a big plus to the Jacksonville Jaguars offense in 2017.
