The Jacksonville Jaguars worked Robert Griffin III last week before the former Heisman Trophy winner and Washington and Cleveland signal caller signed with the Baltimore Ravens. While the Jaguars acknowledge they did bring him in, but he was not offered a deal with the AFC South champion.

Posted by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, “Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Jaguars worked out Griffin on Monday. That workout came only three days after the Ravens worked out Griffin, the second overall pick in the 2012 draft.”

The Jaguars currently have Blake Bortles and Cody Kessler on the roster. There is a thought the team will draft a signal caller later this month in the Draft or will also bring in another veteran arm to training camp. Bortles signed an extension this offseason and remains the starter for the 2018 season.

As NFL.com reported, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports Griffin’s deal has a base salary of $1 million and the quarterback will also receive a small bonus upon signing.

“He came in last week, worked out. Had a real good workout and we were able to come to an agreement late yesterday. He will probably be here early next week to sign the deal,” general manager Ozzie Newsome said.

Griffin, 28, sat out the entire 2017 season after being cut by the Cleveland Browns last March. Griffin’s last start came Jan. 1, 2017 (Week 17 of 2016 season) in a Browns loss to Steelers. The QB completed 72.5 percent of his passes for 232 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, his best game of that season.

The Jaguars acquired Kessler for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2019. Cut by Washington after four years with the team, Robert Griffin III spent one season in Cleveland. He was out of football in 2017.

The 6’2” former college star at Baylor will serve as Joe Flacco’s backup for 2018. There is also has been some discussion the Ravens may seek a quarterback in the NFL Draft, but it is merely speculation.

Bortles signed a 4-year, $20,654,810 contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, including a $13,341,680 signing bonus, $20,654,810 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $5,163,703.
