Just when many thought that with a bad back as well as being 42 years old, it meant that retirement will catch up with Jeff Gordon  soon. Not really.

Not only is Gordon not retiring anytime soon, he quiets his naysayers as the four-time Sprint Cup champion brought the 24 car to victory lane again with a legendary fifth  win at the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis as well as becoming the fifth driver in the history of the Sprint Cup series to reach 90 wins.

Back in 1994, Gordon won the first inaugural race at the brickyard and 20 years later Gordon wins again. Nobody could script it better than that. Entering the home stretch into the chase, Gordon is rolling at the right time and there is no doubt that Gordon will use this momentum to his advantage.

“If you can do it here, you can do it anywhere,” noted Gordon via ESPN.com.”It’s certainly going to be a huge confidence boost for this team. We recognize the significance of this.”

As if Gordon and rest of his teammates on the 24 team weren’t confident already. Gordon’s second win for the season gives room for his team to gamble for more in the next upcoming races before the chase as the team is all but locked their spot in the postseason.

The 24 car has been fast all season at every track put in front of the car which has made Gordon a legitimate contender to battle against his fellow Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson who is seeking his seventh Sprint Cup championship this season.

In years past, Gordon would struggle to make the chase even though he would make it at the very end. Wins were hard to come by for Gordon in 2012 and in 2013 as well. Whatever has happened to Gordon, he seems to have found his groove and he is taking no names.

The 24 car heads to Pocono Raceway next week where the Gordon has the most wins at the track all-time with six.
