It seems that the Houston Texans are going to be without one of their best defensive players as he was shelved for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Ian Rapport of NFL.com reported late Thursday night that Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt would be sidelined for the rest of the 2016 season with a back injury. He already had the surgery as it was determined that surgery would be a better route for him than rehab. He was expected to miss the entire 2016 season with a slim chance he would return without having the surgery.

This is the second time in three months that JJ Watt had a procedure done on his back. He had one done earlier in the summer and end up missing the entire preseason. It doesn’t surprise me that Watt had a second surgery when you play a sport like football you end up doing some damage to your body.

He is 27 years old and is entering the prime of his career, but he won’t have that much longer of a career if he keeps getting injured. Yes, I am aware that injuries are a part of the game. However, the back is a major part of the human body. If I were JJ Watt, I would consider doing different things so that you can have a longer career.

As far as the effect this has on the Texans defense. What it affects is mighty because he was a huge part of their defense and was a leader on their defense. I figure they can have someone else fill in, but it will be tough to have someone to have the same impact that he had. While I think that the Texans will be able to have someone take his spot, his presence will be missed big time for the 2016 season.

The Houston Texans host the Titans this Sunday at 1:00 pm.
