Spencer Ware made a strong impression in week one for the Kansas City Chiefs, but will face much tougher competition this week. The Chiefs will not be in the comfort of their building in week two, as they travel to Texas to take on the Houston Texans. It will be a battle of 1-0 teams, as both teams were able to walk away from week one with a victory.

The Texans played host to the Chicago Bears, defeating them 23-14 and covering the spread. The Chiefs’ victory was not as easy, however, as quarterback Alex Smith struggled in the early going of the game, and the team fell behind early. It took a furious rally and overtime, but the Chiefs were able to beat the San Diego Chargers by a score of 33-27.

Spencer Ware was a clear standout for the Chiefs last week, running for 70 yards on 11 carries, and hauling in 129 passing yards, to lead the team in both receiving and rushing. The team relies heavily on the run game and short passes, and if they get up early, expect to see them try and control the game with their running attack.

The only reason Alex Smith’s numbers ballooned the way they did was because they fell behind big time in the first half and needed a serious comeback to win the game. Their defense was a disappointment last week, but they have the talent to be pretty solid. I would expect them to ramp things up against a beaten up offensive line of the Texans.

As for the Texans, they looked like a legit team last week. We knew coming into the season they would be tremendous on defense, and they were able to hold Chicago to just two touchdowns. I was not a believer in Brock Osweiler entering the season, but he was able to put enough together to win his first game as a Texans rather comfortably.

He has two legit threats at wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller, as well as Lamar Miller in the backfield, who had a strong week one. The question is though, was this success because they were facing off against a lackluster Bears defense? I have a feeling the answer to that question is yes.

The Chiefs enter the game in what could surely be seen as a possible letdown game following their overtime comeback to secure a victory over a divisional opponent. However, their defense still has to prove themselves, and the Texans might just be the right team to do that against.

As I mentioned earlier, the Texans offensive line is not exactly the most stable, and they were able to get away with that last week against the Bears. But Andy Reid has the defensive talent to put some pressure on Osweiler. And if he can do just that, I think the underdogs can pull this one off, even on the road.
