INSCMagazine: Get Social!

In the world of entertainment, there is a term that describes one who is versatile and can do many things such as sing, dance, act and model.

That would be a “triple threat.”

There are many triple-threat actresses, models and performers in Hollywood and the world of pop music such as Selena Gomez, Brittney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Rihanna and Arianna Grande.

And in such a world, that can go a long way in expanding one’s creative and artistic brand. With the entertainment world always looking for that next “triple threat” the very talented—and easy-on-the-eyes—Lauren D’Antonio could be the next one in the making.

Not to be confused with Lauren, the daughter of Michigan State football coach, Mark Dantonio, this Lauren is blessed with a catchy and poppy-like voice with a range of R&B vocals that will grab your attention.

The talented D’Antonio already has her single, “I’ve Heard It All” available on SoundCloud, appeared in a music video, ‘Heated’, with pop-soul singer, Austin Lowe and modeling for such Christian-themed fashion line, Walk In Love, worn by athletes such as NBA MVP and champion Steph Curry and Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson and organic cosmetics company Shear Miracle Organics, D’Antonio is definitely on the rise.

A passionate hockey fan, D’Antonio is an avid and die-hard follower of the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, despite living deep in the heart of Philadelphia Flyers country.

Below is a Q and A with Ms. D’Antonio as we talk about the state of music, modeling and her beloved Pens.

R.C. What brands have you modeled for?

L.D. “A lot of locally-based brands such as Walk In Love., Intentional Apparel, Shear Miracle Organics etc.”

R.C. Which one do you enjoy modeling for the most?

L.D. “I would say Walk in Love. because the brand carries such a positive message.”

R.C. Where has been your favorite place to shoot?

L.D.Yorktown, Virginia! I had a photoshoot right in the old part of town. It’s where we won our Independence!”

R.C. What is the most exciting aspect of modeling?

L.D. “Modeling is basically playing dress up for grown-ups. I love getting all dressed up and becoming different characters for the day.”

R.C. With fall now here, what are some of the ways, one can look stylish, yet stay warm on a brisk night?

L.D. “Plaid is always in fashion during the fall. Shearling jackets were big for fall in New York Fashion Week. So a cozy plaid shirt, leggings, boots, and a shearling jacket should do the trick!”

R.C. As someone who is about to compete for the title of Miss Pennsylvania USA, what are your thoughts on the recent changes to the Miss Teen competition in the elimination of swimsuits for active wear?

L.D. “I’m very happy about it. So many of us girls really struggle with loving our bodies, and eating disorders are a real concern. Having teenage girls model in swimsuits only exacerbates that issue. And in American culture, swimsuits are often sexualized. I’m happy they switched to fitness. To me, beauty isn’t a body structure, or a number on a scale, it’s being healthy both inside and out.”

R.C. What are your thoughts on the rise of active wear in the modeling world?

L.D. “I’m excited about it, and that’s actually the direction I’m hoping to go in myself. The thought of being paid to be healthy sounds like a dream!”

R.C. How do you stay in shape?

L.D. “I workout 6 days a week doing more heavy weight-lifting. Think squats, dead-lifts, hip-thrusts, kickbacks etc. I’m naturally really tiny, so I lift to add some curve to my body.”

R.C. As a model and singer, who is your inspirations within the inspiration?

L.D. “Growing up I would listen to a lot of classic rock with my dad. I feel those memories really created a desire inside of me to sing professionally. And with modeling, I would watch America’s Next Top Model as a teen and thought “Hey, I bet I could do that!” And here I am!”

R.C. Who were your musical influences?

L.D. For vocals? Steve Perry & Celine Dion for actual voice, Arianna Grande for style!”

R.C. what are your thoughts on today’s pop scene in terms of singing and talent, etc?

L.D. Today it’s not just about talent, but who you know & how popular you are on social media.”

R.C. What would we find on your iPod Music playlist?

L.D. “Journey, Peter Frampton, Elton John, Phil Collins, Kansas, Bon Jovi, The Cars, Kiss, Heart, Led Zeplin, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, 5 Finger Death Punch, Nine Inch Nails, Shinedown, Halestorm, Hinder, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Coldplay, Bring Me the Horizon, and Disturbed. Probably a lot of movie soundtracks, some Celine Dion, and radio top 40s too.”

R.C. Outside of modeling and singing, what are your hobbies?

L.D. “I love hiking, shooting firearms, going to the movies, writing short stories, dancing, and going to the gym.”

Sports question: As an Eastern PA-raised girl, word on the street is that you’re a big Pittsburgh sports fan, how much did you enjoy the Pens Stanley Cup win and do you think the Steelers will climb that “stairway to seven”?

L.D. “It was great to see Sid, Gino, and the rest of the team win Lord Stanley! They had a rough start, but Sullivan really brought them together & gave them the discipline they needed. That, along with several stellar trades, really made them a winning team.

Last time the Penguins won the Stanley Cup, the Steelers also won the Super Bowl. I’m not very superstitious… but I’m feeling another Championship in the air ;)”

R.C. What advice would you give to women aspiring to get into modeling and beauty pageants?

L.D. “You have to know who you are and how you want to present yourself before you even start. Modeling is an appearance-based industry, and there are some bad apples in every basket. I’ve heard many horror stories of photographers pressuring young models to do things they didn’t intend to do. So be confident in who you are, be okay with rejection, and know how to say no.”
