Across the United States, communities are exploring new ways to strengthen education and prepare students for a rapidly changing world. In Riverside, California, the Riverside Educational Enrichment Foundation (REEF) is helping lead that effort by expanding opportunities for students through innovative enrichment programs and strong community partnerships.

Working in collaboration with the Riverside Unified School District (RUSD), the foundation supports initiatives that provide students with access to STEM learning, arts education, and academic enrichment that extend beyond traditional classroom instruction.

At the heart of REEF’s mission is a dedicated leadership team committed to supporting educators and empowering students across the Riverside Unified School District.

The foundation’s leadership includes President Loren Dean, Vice-President Sandra Ramirez, Treasurer Kalin Anderson, and Secretary Lari Dean, alongside board members Louise Berkley, Sharon Boothby, Bryan Daugherty, Donna Schulte, Lisa Steklof, and Dr. Chastity Cordova-Heyward. Supporting the organization’s operations is Executive Administrator Lauri Byers, who helps coordinate many of the foundation’s programs and initiatives.

Together, this leadership team works to ensure that students have access to experiences that inspire creativity, curiosity, and confidence.

One of REEF’s most anticipated initiatives is REEF’s Best Event Ever! Take 9!”, an annual celebration showcasing student talent and achievement throughout the Riverside Unified School District. The event will take place on March 9, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the historic Fox Performing Arts Center in downtown Riverside.

The evening will feature student performances, art displays, and academic presentations highlighting the creativity and innovation of RUSD students. The event also serves as a fundraiser supporting programs that expand educational opportunities acrossschools with the Riverside Unified School District.

According to board member Dr. Chastity Cordova-Heyward, a recognized voice in educational advocacy and community engagement, initiatives like this reflect the power of strategic collaboration between educators, nonprofit leaders, and community partners working together to expand opportunities for students.

“The Riverside Educational Enrichment Foundation demonstrates what is possible when educators, community leaders, and local organizations come together with a shared commitment to student success,” Dr. Chastity Cordova-Heyward said. “When communities invest in education, they create opportunities for students to explore their talents, build confidence, and develop the leadership skills they will carry into the future.”

The event is made possible through the support of community partners who share the foundation’s vision for expanding educational opportunities. First Student, a national leader in student transportation services dedicated to supporting schools and communities, continues to champion initiatives that empower students.
