INSCMagazine: Get Social!

Given the intensity of change occurring in global temperatures and atmosphere, we know there will be a lot needed on our part to survive such changes.

The melting icecaps and/or endangered wildlife all indicate to grave changes which will be hard and are raising significant concerns among not just scientists and environmental experts but on general people.

Preppers, however, have been preparing for a time like this since forever.

From them, we learn how to survive these tough times or extreme climatic changes. Not that, you’ll be creating a panic room in the basement of your home but why not a kit to help you when SHTF. You don’t like calling it a survival kit then an emergency or disaster kit would work for such a situation.

Where to Start?

There is no such thing as an ultimate kit because there is always something left behind when you’re packing your own disaster management equipment. To make sure your kit lacks nothing important, such as great prices on student emergency kits, the best thing to do is get a bag that is spacious enough and can be comfortably carried anywhere you want. You basically won’t need an emergency bag at one place but you’ll at least need three of them to serve their actual purpose.

One that you carry with you, one at home and one in your car, this three tiered plan for an emergency bag works the best. You want yourself and your family to be safe, no matter what happens so you need to prepare for that. Here’s what you’ll need in your survival kits.

What to Pack?

First-Aid Kit:

If this is a first aid kid then you probably know what basic essentials will be but for those who don’t, here’s a quick list to help you keep your kit handy in time of need.

· Sterile pads and Gauze

· Adhesive Band-Aid

· Painkillers

· Aspirin

· First aid tape

· Neosporin

· Alcohol pads or antiseptic wipes

· Preferably oral thermometer but non-mercury

· Tweezers

· Scissors

· Compress Dressings

The Car-Kit:

Whether or not you are travelling this kit should always stay in your car, not just something you’ll need when going for a road trip. Apart from its first aid supplies, here are some things you’ll need:

· At least a 16 pack small drink box with maximum shelf life

· Empty or filled water bottles

· Water purifiers

· Some protein bars or packed food like instant soup

· Rope

· Folding knife or multi-tool with a number of tools along with the knife

· Rechargeable or self-powered Flashlight

· Waterproof matches

· Aluminum foil

· Candles wrapped in plastic or foil

· Fire starters

· Whistle

· Wire

· A multipurpose charger

· Radio

· Small tent

· Sleeping bag

· A bright orange hoodie to draw attention

· Safety Pins

· A small compass(if you know how to use one)

· Some cash

The Kit at Home:

The kit is more or less the same with first aid and the basic essentials as mentioned above. You may or may not exclude the tent out of this kit, however it’s best to add more in the first aid tier. You must keep something for identity and SOS numbers in all three of these kits or emergency bags.

Make sure these kits are kept at an easily accessible place, known to every person in your family.

A good rule of thumb is to never over pack, what you must understand is that, in an emergency situation, you might not have access to a reliable power source, so depending on technology is not a good idea at all. There are many things mentioned here that are an alternative to one or the other, for e.g. you either keep a pack of small drink bottles or keep unfilled bottles with water purifiers.
