Just when you think that the proverbial mud-slinging of the nasty and utterly vile Republican presidential race couldn’t devolve any further, GOP front-runner Donald Trump and bitter rival in Texas senator Ted Cruz set the bar even lower.

Locked in a bitter and nasty fight for the GOP nomination, Trump recently accused Cruz of releasing a partially-clad picture of his wife, Melania in an attack ad via Twitter, calling him “#LyingTed” and threatening to release pictures of Cruz’s wife, Heidi. Cruz would naturally respond in calling Trump “a coward” and #classless.

What is truly classless is how both men have now made a non-issue about one’s wives into every horny man’s proverbial wet dream in slut-shaming each other’s trophy wives. While this writer does not have a proverbial dog in the repulsive Trump-Cruz war, as I’m a twice-voting for Obama, Bernie Sanders supporter who hopes to see either of these idiots “feel the Bern” come November, it is truly repulsive and sad that while this type of sophomoric and boorish type of behavior is right up Trump’s proverbial wheelhouse, it is both laughable and pathetic of how gullible and stupid of Cruz allowing himself to be suckered and pulled down to Trump’s back-alley, bare-knuckle level.

For someone that calls himself a God-fearing Christian and touts his evangelical horn every opportunity he gets, if the reports of him having five extramarital affairs are indeed true, then he will need to do some—ahem—soul-searching of his own.

While the term “Christian conservatives” is becoming more and more of a laughable verb for misogynistic Bible-beating hypocrisy at it’s best in having seedy affairs, while preaching abstinence and family values—I’m looking at you Bristol Palin!—Cruz should have taken the proverbial high road in denouncing the Super PAC’s they aired the scantily-clad ad of Melania.

When Cruz came out and denied not knowing about the ad, I called bullshit immediately as all candidates are generally aware of any and all attack ads. While we may not know the long-term effect of Cruz’s extramarital affairs and how the rest of the fractured carcass of the dying GOP electorate will react, but if Cruz is the Republican establishment’s last stand against the outsider that is Trump, then just give “The Donald” the GOP nomination now, step back and watch him get rolled by either Sanders or Hillary Clinton in the general election—that is unless John Kasich—steals it from under both of their noses of course at what will be a brokered Republican convention in Cleveland.

Sadly, both men are equally wrong in their slut-shaming actions, yet both of them may be the GOP’s best chance at winning in November, which in itself is the cruelest joke of all.
