The Miami Marlins have announced the team has placed Justin Bour on the 10-Day disabled list with an ankle bruise.

MLB.com reported the decision to take Bour out of the lineup was made Tuesday. Miami also recalled catcher Tomas Telis from Triple-A New Orleans before Tuesday’s game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Bour underwent an MRI exam before Monday’s series-opening 3-1 Marlins loss.

Bour, who turned 29 on May 28, entered Tuesday tied for the National League lead in home runs with 16. He’s hitting .295/.369/.589 in 55 games.  He has been one of the bright spots in the Marlins lineup this year. He is still a strong contender to be at the MLB All-Star game in Miami at Marlins Park.

The Marlins had catcher JT Realmuto spent time in Spring Training at first base to play on days when Bour needed a day off.

“In general, we think it’s going to be 10 days,” Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. “Obviously you never know. I didn’t think it was going to be a DL [stint], either.”

Bour injured his left ankle while stepping on first base in his final at-bat of Saturday’s game against the D-backs, in which Miami’s Edinson Volquez threw a no-hitter. Bour dealt with discomfort on Sunday, but he entered as a pinch-hitter for one at-bat.

Last season, Bour spent a majority of the second half of the disabled list with a high ankle sprain that kept him out of the lineup.

Bour was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 25th round of the 2008 Major League Draft. He was selected by the Miami Marlins in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft in December 2013.

Bour was called up to the majors for the first time on June 1, 2014.

On May 17, 2015, Bour broke up Shelby Miller’s no-hit bid at Marlins Park with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. On July 3rd, 2015 he homered in his 4th straight game, tying eight other Miami Marlins to do that. On October 5th, 2015, he was named NL Rookie of the Month for September.
