The Milwaukee Brewers have reportedly called up their No. 1 prospect, Lewis Brinson, Wednesday afternoon. The call up comes one day after rumors of Brinson possibly being dealt in a trade swirled across news outlets. After suddenly leaving Triple-A Colorado, many speculated that Brinson was on the way out of the Brewers organization.

Brinson will be the starting in center field and batting seventh in the lineup, in the Brewers match up against the Washington Nationals tonight.

Brinson is currently hitting .345/.417/.569 at the Triple-A level. In his 68 games played, he has 92 hits, 10 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases.

According to FoxSports.com, the 23-year-old made his major-league debut last month, connecting for just three hits in 31 at bats, but has consistently ranked as one of the top prospects in baseball. Brinson came in at No. 15 on MLB Pipeline’s midseason list of the game’s top prospects and checked in at No. 16 in Baseball America’s rankings.

He was originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the 2012 draft. Brinson was selected as the Texas Rangers Defender of the Year in 2015. In 2013, he became the first player in Class-A Hickory history to hit at least 20 homers and steal at least 20 bases in the same season. Brinson was moved at last year’s trade deadline as part of a package deal for Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy and closer Jeremy Jeffress. A trade that has clearly benefited the Brewers more so than the Texas Rangers, as they find themselves struggling to keep their season alive.
