Albert Pujols has made Major League Baseball history. The slugger has reached 600 career home runs. This wasn’t any normal long ball. Pujols launched a grand slam to put himself in the history books. He is the fourth youngest, and ninth total, to reach this milestone.
Pujols joins the 600 club with Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Alex Rodriguez, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr., Jim Thome, and Sammy Sosa.
Per ESPN.com, Pujols is in his sixth year with the Angels. He began his career with 11 spectacular seasons in St. Louis. He became the youngest player to hit 250 homers and the first to hit 400 homers in his first 10 big-league seasons while with the Cardinals, and he is the only player ever to hit at least 30 homers in his first 12 big-league seasons.
Albert Pujols has become one of the greatest hitters of our time. This feat adds him to the list of one of the greatest ever.
The Los Angeles Angels haven’t found success as of late. In fact, the team has not won a playoff game since Pujols signed in 2011. His contract was valued at $240 million. In addition to Pujols, the Angels have Mike Trout on the roster. Trout is arguably the greatest player in the game at this moment. He will probably go down as one of the greatest players of this era.
Despite these two players, the Angels have failed to make any serious contention for a World Series bid. Trout has years left in the game. Possibly not many with the Angels. Though Pujols made history, his days in Major League Baseball are numbered. Can the Angels make something happen soon?
The Houston Astros are dominating the division. The Texas Rangers are hit and miss. A Wild Card spot is possible, but the Angels will need to capitalize on every opportunity to make it happen.
