After opening weekend that consisted of $111 million worldwide, $66 million in North America. Paramount is quickly eyeing a sequel to “World War Z”.

The film stars Brad Pitt (Fight Club, Inglourious Basterds) as an ex-investigative reporter for the United Nations who travels the globe in search for a cure to a zombie epidemic.

THR reported that the original concept for World War Z was visioned as a trilogy. Brad Pitt was quoted by THR saying “There is enough to mine from the book. We could barely get a fraction of the book in. So we’ll see. We’ll see”.

The only downside to this is the first film was apparently a nightmare during its shoot. Originally it was set to be released in December of 2012, but with script problems (the entire third act was rewritten), the movie’s release date was pushed back to June.

The movie appears to be a commercial success among movie goers, whether or not it will have enough legs to make back its $190 million dollar budget is another case.

I’m not so sure about seeing a sequel to this. Sure, the movie left it open for a continuation. Though, unless there’s a different take on the second film (through the eyes of another person, not a steady story of Brad Pitt and family), I really don’t see this as an interesting story.

Pitt’s character wasn’t a soldier or a zombie killing machine, he was a glorified reporter. He got his answers, and ran away from zombies. Then again, he is the poster boy and I think the sole reason this movie made so much, so to not bring him back could spell death for the franchise.

What would you like to see in the WWZ sequel?

WORLD WAR Z also stars Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale and David Morse
