Most country music fans are already hip to Sam Hunt. However, if your one of the few that hasn’t discovered this extraordinary musician, you better become acquainted with him real quick.

Hunt is one of the hottest acts in all genres of music. His current single “Take Your Time” is the top song on the US Hot Country and US Country Airplay charts, and is sitting as the 20th most popular song in the nation.

Although, “Take Your Time” isn’t the only hit Hunt has had success with. His first single off of his debut album, Montevallo, went certified platinum. The track “Leave The Light On” went to number one on the country airplay charts, and helped Montevallo debut at number one on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart.

While Montevallo is the first solo album from Hunt, he has also co-written quite a few songs for numerous other artists including Billy Currington, Keith Urban, and Kenny Chesney. In fact, his work with Chesney won him an ASCAP award for their song “Come Over”.

What many don’t know about Hunt was his life before the music. He played quarterback for two years with Middle Tennessee State and UAB, and was even invited to attend training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Going from football star to country music megastar has been quite the journey for Hunt. He was nominated for Best New Artist at the Academy of Country Music Awards, and will almost assuredly get many more nominations for the single Take Your Time.

Regardless of what the future holds, Hunt was extremely grateful to be a part of his first ever ACM Awards, as he told ET.

“It means a whole lot. I am really new to this. This is my very first awards show and this is the best in country music. I’ve grown up watching this show and grown up listening to all the artists who participate in this award show and it’s phenomenal to a part of it now.”

While Hunt didn’t walk away with an award at the ACM’s (Cole Swindell walked away with Best New Artist) he has a promising career ahead of him, one that is only beginning to flourish.
