According to NBA TNT analyst, David Aldridge, Steve Kerr has agreed in principle to a five-year $25 million deal to become the new head coach of the Golden State Warriors.

Kerr, a five-time NBA champion and 15-year veteran for the Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls, was widely presumed to be the front-runner to replace former New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson after new Knicks president of basketball operations—and former head coach—Phil Jackson was hired.

A current analyst for TNT, this will be Kerr’s first head coaching job in the NBA.

While short on experience, Kerr will inherit perhaps the most prolific shooting backcourt in the form of the Splash Brothers—aka Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

A former NBA three-point shooting champion(1997), Kerr’s expertise in long-range shooting could prove to be an asset for the high-scoring Warriors going forward.
