The New York Knicks are in no contention to compete this season. Instead, the team will look to the off-season to bring in a crop of talent to surround Carmelo Anthony and coach Derek Fisher.

One such name the team could be looking at is Orlando Magic forward Tobias Harris.

A close friend of Harris told The New York Post, “He wants to win a championship with the Knicks.”

Harris, who is from Long Island, was born in Islip, New York, wants to return to play for his hometown team. The Orlando forward rejected a four-year $36 million offer from the Magic, and will be set to hit free agency this upcoming offseason. Harris spoke on the matter to the New York Post.

“I don’t think about it too much. I’m trying to play basketball, worry about the present with Orlando. That’s my mind-set, After the season, when the time comes, we’ll be able to discuss that and go from there.”

Selected 19th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats out of Tennessee, Harris’ trade rights would be dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks, where he spent an average of 11.5 minutes per night on the court, and only averaged five points a contest.

However, on February 21, 2013, Harris was dealt to Orlando for a package that saw J.J. Reddick sent to Milwaukee. Harris would go on to average 17.3 points in 27 games for the Magic that season.

This season has been the best of Harris’s four-year NBA career, in averaging 18 points and 6.9 rebounds for a young Orlando Magic team.

Because of NBA rules, the Knicks can’t confirm or deny interest in Harris, but a move to New York would put Harris next to one of the NBA’s best scorers in Anthony, and strengthen the team’s front court. The Knicks will certainly have the cap space to sign Harris, it’s just a matter of if they want to do so.
