This week Thursday Night Football will see a showdown between two NFC South rivals. The New Orleans Saints will fly North as they take on Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. The Saints will enter the game in the basement of the division, and are coming off a tough-luck loss at home to the Denver Broncos by a score of 25-23. The Panthers are coming off their home loss, as they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17 a week ago. The two teams have already battled once this season, and the Saints came out on top 41-38 at the Superdome.

The Saints have one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL. Drew Brees has the club sitting second in the league in points per game, and first in total yards as well as passing yards per game. But unfortunately for the team, their defense has not been pulling their weight, and the team has fallen to a 4-5 record. They have split their four road games to this point, getting past the idea that the were a terrible road team. This week will be their first divisional road game of the season, and it sure will not be an easy one.
That is because the Panthers are surely going to be out for revenge for their week six loss to Brees and the gang. The Panthers have not been all that great at home thus far this season, however, only winning two of their five home contests through 10 weeks. Cam Newton and the offense have simply been average, and the defense has had its ups and downs. They have become one of the harder teams to predict, as you never know which version of the club is going to show up each week.

So I am banking on the Panthers coming out and playing well, knowing they lost to this team a few weeks back. I just have a hard time seeing the Saints sweeping the Panthers, and the fact that this game is not in New Orleans does factor into that thinking. While the Saints typically play higher scoring affairs, I think this one turns into an ugly type of game that sees both offenses struggle.
