The New York Giants look dangerous as ever after coming off a 21-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, and the scary part is the Giants didn’t play their best football. That’s right I said it, they could have been better. Truth be told, had the Giants beat the Washington Redskins in week two (which they should have) the Giants would be at 6-2, a game back of the red-hot Dallas Cowboys and competing for the NFC East title. In fact, this Giants could still win the east if they continue the dominance they’ve displayed so far and being the only team to beat Dallas. Eli Manning looks poised and ready to make another Super Bowl push to prove to all the haters out there that he is in fact not just an “average” quarterback.

Eli Manning looks poised and ready to make another Super Bowl push to prove to all the haters out there that he is in fact not just an “average” quarterback.

Speaking of Eli, I know he hasn’t exactly been spectacular this season by any means but he’s doing enough to keep putting the Giants in the win column which is more than my Steelers have done recently. To this point in the season, Manning has thrown for 2,481 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, even with Manning turning the ball over a little more than what Giants fans hope he has had a solid year aside from that stat.

Manning also benefits from having one of the best receiving corps in the NFL with Victor Cruz, Odell Beckham Jr, and rookie Sterling Shepard. That’s a pretty good safety blanket for Manning. Looking more into Eli’s stats he’s on pace for his career average as far as passing yards, TDs, and INT’s go. However, if Manning wants to win another Super Bowl he’ll have to cut down a number of interceptions he’s throwing.

Moving on to that group of talented receivers now, I’d be scared to be opposing defensive backs. Victor Cruz while being a bit older now (30) he can still produce at a high level if given the opportunity, and targets in a game. Through these first 10 weeks, he only has one touchdown that coming in the week one matchup against Dallas and only 377 yards. However, with the emergence of rookie Sterling Shepard, his role has been limited. Speaking of Shepard, through his first nine games has been solid. Not amazing numbers that jump off that page at you but he adds another weapon to Eli and the Giants offense. He has 426 yards and four TD’s to start his career through nine games again not eye-popping statistics but when you have one of the best receivers in Odell Beckham Jr lining up across from you, it’s hard to get a target at times.

Shepard will be a key piece in the continued success of the Giants not only this season but for seasons to come. Finally, how could I not talk about the guy? Odell Beckham Jr after having a slow start to the season has picked it up as of late. Through nine games he has 773 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. He had a huge week against the Baltimore Ravens a couple of weeks ago hauling in eight passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Now mind you that’s a good defense in Baltimore as well.

The Giants defense has been suspect at times against both the pass and the run, but newcomers Olivier Vernon and Janoris Jenkins have slowly started being big time players for that Ben McAdoo defense. Jenkins will be matched up each week against the best receivers in the league hoping to make a difference, while Vernon will be coming off the edge on rushes trying to get to the opposing QB. Both of these players will be huge players for years to come and the Giants need them to be with the contracts they were given. To this point in the season while not being amazing they have done a good job and held opposing offenses in check for the most part.

All the players listed here are going to help the New York Giants make the playoffs in the NFC. Unless something crazy happens and Dallas goes into some bizarre tailspin they’ll more than likely be a wild card team. However, it doesn’t matter what seed this team is they have shown that in the past when winning their two most recent Super Bowls. All in all, I give the Giants a good chance of at least making the playoffs depending on if they can knock Dallas off again in week 14 they have a chance to win the division. So yes no matter what this New York Giants football team will make the playoffs.
