I know this is not fair but unfortunately, when you get drafted #6 overall you automatically become the spotlight player. Jamal Adams safety out of LSU was selected #6 overall by the New York Jets and is now the focal point of this defense. I could have gone with Darron Lee but he does not seem to be the top candidate to replace David Harris, as Coach Bowles likes Darron Lee better at weak side LB.  Also, could have gone with newly acquired Demario Davis who will probably play his best football this season, as it is a contract year for him. Ultimately, the pressure will be on the shoulders of rookie and top 10 pick Jamal Adams.

During his time at LSU Adams was a very good safety.  He started all 3 years at LSU playing 12 games a season. In his 12 games in his freshmen year, he had 38 solo tackles and 28 assisted tackles 1 sack and 4 passes defended.  In his sophomore season, he played 12 games and had 48 solo tackles 19 assisted tackles four Interceptions (which was good enough for fourth in the SEC) six passes defended and one fumble recovery.  Junior season was his most effective for tackling as he had 42 solo tackles and 34 assisted tackles. He will help the Jets on run support in addition to not getting beat over the top.

He will not be alone as the Jets also picked another safety with their second round pick. The New York Jets went up and nabbed Marcus Maye who is a complementary player to Jamal Adams. This will assist the Jets over the top, which was one of the weakness last season.  Because they drafted these players, they cut Marcus Gilchrist and then went on to trade Calvin Pryor for the aforementioned Demario Davis. Therefore, it looks like Marcus Maye will play Free Safety and Adams will play Strong Safety. The Jets will start two rookies on defense and the spotlight will be bright on Adams.
