In New York Jets Rumors News:

The New York Jets season is over but that doesn’t mean they can’t prepare themselves for the future. The Jets have a major decision to make here. Do they play the season out with incompetent Geno Smith and wait for the NFL Draft or do they make a move for a current NFL QB and move forward?

Since last season the Jets were in a contract dispute with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and while the masses wanted the Jets to just pay the man, it seems the team was on to something all along. Fitzpatrick has stunk the season up and just may have solidified his spot as a career backup. His career numbers may suggest that he’s done running a team as a starter, but he has left the Jets in a tight spot.

Now they must find a way out and the best possible solution may be in either San Diego with Philip Rivers or New England with Jimmy Garoppolo. But it all depends on where they see their team heading next season.

With the current roster they have, it seems that winning now is their top priority. A roster reset at the most important position on the team will not do the veteran Jets any good. But, with Garoppolo learning from Bill Belichick and Tom Brady he may be the exception. He has the arm and smarts to be a top flight QB in the league and all the Jets will need from him is to manage the game. But here’s the one issue with the Jets making a deal with the Patriots. It may not happen due to the Patriots not wanting to let a top talent go to a division rival. It’s one thing to ship him off to New Orleans but to put him on a team they will face twice a season, I can’t see that happening, no matter what the Jets offer. And the last issue being. What QB has left the Patriots and actually succeeded? They may have gotten paid but who has actually done something remarkable since?

Rivers is the obvious choice. His time in San Diego has been great but the team is no longer on the upswing. The Chargers, unlike Rivers, are on the decline and a change of scenery for Rivers may be what’s best for him and the Chargers. Rivers continues to put up Pro Bowl numbers with a cast of who’s who receivers and back,s but imagine what he could do with a Jets team loaded with offense weapons.

Even with Eric Decker out for the season, they still have Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte which will be an instant upgrade over Melvin Gordon and Travis Benjamin. At 1-5, the Jets season is basically over but with Rivers at the helm they will get a clear look at what 2017 will be like with a real QB. If I’m the Jets I’m on the phone and seeing what San Diego wants to make this trade happen. The season may be lost but next year is still only a couple of weeks away.
