Lions roar over Giants in Monday Night Football opener, 35-14: Matthew Stafford’s upside to this game was his ability to improvise. This could, if anything alone, show Lions fans a sign of significant improvement.

The top pick from the 2009 out of Georgia threw for 346 yards and two touchdowns as the Detroit Lions (1-0) rolled past the New York Giants (0-1), 35-14 in the Monday Night opener. Calvin Johnson was Stafford’s favorite target as he brought in seven receptions for 164 yards with two touchdowns as the Lions jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning struggled out of the gate throwing for 163 yards and a touchdown, while throwing two interceptions. It was Manning’s 43rd game with multiple interceptions since the 2000 season, the most by any quarterback.

Wide Receiver Larry Donnell caught five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown for the Giants, who could only muster 197 yards of total offense.

Bears can’t finish off Bills lose 23-20 in OT: The Chicago Bears (0-1) were heavily favored coming into the game but the Buffalo Bills (1-0) won the turnover battle as a 38-yard run by running back Fred Jackson set up a Dan Carpenter field goal as the Bills stunned the Bears, 23-20 in overtime.

Jay Cutler threw for 349 yards with two touchdowns, but gave the Bills a gift of two interceptions. Matt Forte contributed 169 total yards of offense for the Bears.

E.J. Manuel threw for 173 yards and added a passing and rushing touchdown as the Bills picked up a big win in the season opener on the road.
