The New York Giants finished 11-5 and lost in the playoffs to the Green Bay Packers. They were good in the air on offense and their defense was much improved. But the Giants had some holes to fill in the draft still. I will list them in no particular order.  Offensive Line, Linebacker, Tight End, Defensive End, Running Back, and Defensive Tackle. I would put that they need a QB for the future but I don’t consider that a crucial need. So here we go.

Round 1- Evan Engram TE – Now with this pick they did address a need. Their first mistake was not trying to trade up to get OJ Howard once he fell out of the top 10.  Once Jerry Resse decided to stay put he should have traded out of that spot and picked up an extra pick.  Engram was an early 2nd round pick on most boards.  Sure Engram is going to help the New York Giants offense. Nonetheless, this felt like a reach for them. Especially with an RB like Dalvin Cook still sitting there. Grade C

Round 2- Dalvin Tomlinson DT – Another need filled for the Giants and the absolute perfect replacement for Johnathan Hankins.  Great pick here as the Giants got him right where he was projected.  I give them an A for this pick as this was a need and best available.

Round 3- Davis Webb QB – Not a need but the New York Giants felt this was the time to draft Eli’s replacement.  He was ranked as the 4th best QB in the draft, although I think he has a higher potential but will take longer to develop.  Grade on this one is a B.  Not really a need but a good value pick.

Round 4- Wayne Gallman RB – This time they filled a need but I don’t believe this was a great pick for them.  Gallman averaged 5.1 yards per carry in his career at Clemson.  I believe a lot of his yards was because of Deshaun Watson was his QB.  So I give them a C+ on this pick because they could have had Dalvin Cook.

Round 5- Avery Moss DE – Good pick he fits the system was a need because you can never have too many pass rushers.  The only downside, Nebraska kicked him out of for exposing himself to a worker so he could have some off the field issues. Grade C+

Round 6- Adam Bisnowaty OT – Anytime you can get a tackle in the 6th round you take it because they are valuable even if they end up moving him to guard it will be a good pick.  And Because they needed to address their offensive line this is a better pick.  Hopefully, he will be the help they need at Right Tackle and can compete for a starting job.  Grade B

Overall the New York Giants did fill some positions. However, it kind of felt like while they filled the positions they didn’t always get best available at that position.  I think the Giants will regret not getting Dalvin Cook and some other offensive lineman that would have helped.

So for my overall grade, I will give them a C+.
