EAST RUTHORFORD- The New York Giants released Brandon Marshall yesterday. The veteran wide receiver seemed shocked by the decision. Marshall failed a physical which prompted the move. He suffered a season ending ankle injury which required surgery. He played in just five games last season.

Marshall doesn’t have plans to retire at this time. He is 34 years old and is clearly in the twilight of his career. It will soon come to an end. It will be interesting to see which teams will line up to sign him. He eclipsed the 1,000 receiving yards mark eight seasons of the twelve he played. Does Marshall still have the potential for such incredible numbers now? The potential for such a lofty number may still be there but with age and the injury still a factor, he might not be able to have that performance.

What will the Giants do next? They could sign Dez Bryant despite earlier reports that the Giants have no interest in signing the former Cowboys wide receiver. The draft features really good depth and New York currently has the number two pick. Does that mean Calvin Ridley will be selected number two despite the Josh Rosen and Bradley Chubb reports?  That is exactly what it means though the Giants may consider trading down to acquire more picks and still select Ridley. The Giants may want to consider 2018 a rebuilding year after an awful season. Perhaps it would be for the best to trade with New England since they have two first round picks, the Patriots would acquire Rosen and the Giants would have a guaranteed chance to draft a quarterback and receiver in the first round. The Patriots have the 23rd and 31st overall picks which means if a trade happens, the Giants could end up with a duo of Mason Rudolph and Christian Kirk.
