CLEVELAND- The Browns signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown last Friday.

The deal is worth $14 million over the course of three years. There are also  incentives including playing team which could increase the value of the contract to $20 million over three years.

Usually when a Browns quarterback is paid at least $6 million on average, he is the starter. McCown will earn $5.25 million in 2015.

General manager Ray Farmer said, “Josh is your consummate professional.” “He’s known to be a great guy in the locker room and will be great for the quarterback room.”

McCown is 17-32 as a starting quarterback. He threw for 2,206 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. He threw 11 interceptions last season so he needs to improve on his accuracy.

Tampa Bay was not known for a stellar offensive line which may be partially to blame for his dismal numbers. However, with the return of Pro-Bowl center   Alex Mack, there is a slight chance that McCown will have success in Cleveland. The blocking abilities of Mack, Pro- Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas, Mitchell Schwartz and Joel Bitonio are superior to Tampa Bay’s offensive line.

The Browns are looking to add receivers via free agency which could optimize McCown’s chances of succeeding in the Browns offensive system and leading the team to several wins.

McCown will like be a mentor for Johnny Manziel.
