FOXBORO- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady might retire before the season starts. He said that retirement may come sooner rather than later. His family will factor in the decision. Will the five time super bowl champion quarterback ride into the sunset before the 2018 season opener?

Brady also said he may try to win two more super bowls before retiring. It is very important that the Patriots take this seriously and prepare for life after Brady. The 2018 NFL draft features solid depth at quarterback so the time to select Brady’s successor is now. The rumor is that New England really likes Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson is a dual threat but many question if Jackson will be a quarterback in the NFL. Some fans might argue that Jackson is next Michael Vick which would turn out very well for him if that holds true.

However other potential Brady successors include Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph, Western Kentucky’s Mike White, and Wyoming’s Josh Allen. By the time the Patriots pick, they should have at least three of these quarterbacks to choose from. It would be better to take one in the first round, otherwise they may need to take a passer in round two. Obviously, the Patriots can’t wait until round three.

White and Allen would be great dual threats as both possess a cannon arm but Allen has accuracy issues. The risk of waiting until round two is that all of these quarterbacks will likely be off the board. Of course, Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta may be a fit for New England but that is really taking a chance. The Patriots must continue the Super Bowl winning tradition which means taking a quarterback in round one.

The Patriots will probably select Rudolph or Jackson in the first round. However, White probably has everything the Patriots look for. New England could also trade for the Browns number one or fourth overall pick to acquire UCLA’s Josh Rosen.
