The Oakland Raiders have cut ties with inside linebacker Ronaldo McClain. It is not a surprise as there were rumors swirling for weeks about his release.

At one point he was going to anchor the Raiders defense and considered a good selection at no.8 in the 2010 NFL . He was one of the most recognizable stars of the Alabama Crimson Tide team that won the BCS National Championship and yet he was nothing more than a disappointment.

During his time with the Crimson Tide he won the Butkus Award in his junior season.  With the Raiders inconsistency and off the field issues plagued him.  At the time he got drafted he was going to become a run stopper that never happened.

In 2012 the Raiders defense was the second worst when it came to stopping the run.  His best season in is three-year NFL career came in 2011 when registering 99 tackles and five sacks.

That same spark got lost last season and at times seemed lost on the field. His lone sack came against the  Kansas City Chiefs the worst team in the league.

In order for McClain to catch on to another team he first has to show some maturity and stay out of trouble. Then a team that has good veteran leadership is the most ideal situation for him.
