Winning really must cure most issues in the sports world. Philadelphia Eagles rookie QB, Carson Wentz has the highest selling jersey in the NFL according to Fanatics. Wentz took his first snap as a starter Sunday afternoon against the Cleveland Browns and had one of the best debuts for a rookie QB in NFL history.
Wentz completed 22 of 37 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a season-opening win over the Browns. After the game, Eagles fans rushed stores, hit online carts and went Wentz crazy. This is what happens when a loyal fan base gets behind you.
To see Wentz jersey outsell those of Antonio Brown, Tom Brady, and others is a thing of beauty as earlier this offseason Wentz was listed as the 3rd string QB on the Eagles depth chart. After Sunday, there are no more issues about where he stands in terms of the Eagles future.
Wentz was the No. 2 overall pick for the Eagles in the 2016 NFL draft, right behind Jared Goff, who went to the Los Angeles Rams with the No.1 pick. It would seem the Goff would be the one making the headlines as the top pick but he was left holding a clipboard as Case Keenum started their first games against the San Fransisco 49ers Monday night.
Now that Wentz has had his first taste of success in a pro uniform he will be looking to extend that winning streak as he leads the Eagles into Chicago for a Monday night showdown against Jay Cutler and the Bears. If the rookie QB can duplicate what he did in his first start his star will continue to rise and just might make a household name for himself before his third career game.
The Eagles were in the market for a good QB, but in the process, they made have found themselves a marketable star.
