With the return of recently retired linebacker, James Harrison to the Pittsburgh Steelers, here are five reasons why Steeler Nation has much to rejoice about:

1 – “He can’t play until his walker and Depends arrive!” People love to call out Pittsburgh’s D as old, but let’s call it what it really is – wisdom. Blast the Steel Curtain as antiquated all you want but the young chaps can learn a thing or two from vets like Harrison, Brett Keisel, Ike Taylor, and Troy Polamalu.

2 – Deebo’s Story: The struggle is real and everyone loves a fairytale ending.  After initially being cut three times by the Steelers and once by the longtime rival Ravens, Harrison was given one more shot by the Steelers in 2004. He was close to succumbing to a life as a truck driver and even earned his commercial driver’s license.

Fortunately, he never needed it as he finally proved himself as a quality defensive player.  He went on to collaborate on a book about his fight to make it as a professional football player.

3 – He appreciates his fans and his fans love him. This guy gives away tickets to every home game as well as tons of signed items throughout the season via Facebook and Twitter. He doesn’t have to, but that’s how much he loves the game and loves his fans.  And nothing can top his annual Brunch with Santa event that his foundation puts on to raise money for families and children in need.

4 – The opportunity to truly retire as a Steeler. Sure, the Steelers honored Harrison by allowing him to retire a Steeler despite spending last season in Cincinnati, but nothing can compare to coming home and giving it one more shot with your brothers.

This is a true gift for Steelers fans who welcomed him back with open arms.

5 – Roger Goodell will get to line his pockets once more. Let’s be real, the NFL Commissioner loves to fine James Harrison so he must have been giddy with joy to hear about his return to Pittsburgh because more playing time equals more fines.  With this sure to be Harrison’s true final season, he would be letting us down if he didn’t go out with a bang.

Keep your eyes open for some of his best work ever, including some fun hits.

  1. The one reason I like is that he gets to retire as a Steeler. Not an “I
have just signed a one day contract after a few seasons elsewhere to
retire here” Steeler. It means alot more to the fans, in my opinion
anyways, when a player comes back to properly finish their career with a
    team.
