UCF Knights Preview

Well, Knights fans the day has come, what seems to have been an eternity since our beloved Knights took the field is and now here we are front and center. Their opponent for the 1st game of the season? Florida A&M University.  You say that sounds familiar and can’t figure out why? That’s because they are home to one of the best marching bands in the nation. But surprise if you are heading to the game tomorrow one thing you will notice is missing is the FAMU band they will not be there because they will be at a competition in Houston. One of the main reasons you schedule FAMU is for the Marching “100” so this is kinda disappointing for Knight fans looking forward to seeing the band in action.

FAMU Vs. UCF History

These two teams have only faced off against each other one other time and it was in Tallahassee in 1987. The outcome of that game was a victory for FAMU, which if it happens again there may be riots. UCF has a history of losing to teams they should never have lost to including most recently Arkansas State and Furman. At the time of that game in 1987, UCF was still a Division II school and was 3 years away from jumping to Divison I.  That season that UCF lost to FAMU their overall record was 9-4 and included loses to Eastern Kentucky, Georgia Southern, and Troy. Wins were highlighted over Bethune Cookman and Liberty.

This years matchup

At the time of this article, UCF is a 48 point favorite and the overwhelming majority says UCF should have this won by halftime. If FAMU wants to pull off the ultimate upset they will need to contain newly transferred QB Brandon Wimbush. A win for UCF would make it 4 straight season opener wins, would be win number 16 in a row at home which is a school record, would even the series at 1-1, and snap the longest losing streak for the Knights since the 2016 season. Overall I don’t see FAMU being able to hang around longer than halftime in this one and we will most likely see a lot of Dillion Gabriel in the second half of this one. Hopefully, Coach Heup doesn’t ease off the gas and keeps the pedal to the metal.
