In late April of 2013 center Jason Collins announced that he was gay and received support from the likes of former president Bill ClintonKobe Bryant and the Boston Red Sox organization who offered him a chance to throw out the first pitch and did so in June.

At the time Collins a member of the Washington Wizards  became the first player in the four major US sports to come out as openly gay. While he didn’t get an opportunity to play in an NBA game after the announcement due to the team having their big men healthy he was still under contract and became a free agent after the season.

He did not sign with a team for 2014 and reports are indicating that he will sign a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets an organization he’s familiar with having played with the franchise from 2001-2002 to 2007-2008 before getting traded during the season to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Now Collins gets a second opportunity to become the first gay player to make an appearance in the four major sports and hopefully head coach Jason Kidd gets him into the game tonight against the Los Angeles Lakers.
