The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate to the Texas Rangers, have amazing pitching talent on the roster. It’s already been discussed. That point is further reinforced by Collin Wiles. The 22-year-old pitcher was named the Texas Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Month, for April.

Wiles is just the 16th pitcher in RoughRiders history to earn this honor. He is also the first since June of 2016, when Victor Payano won the award.

During the opening month of the season, Wiles has looked spectacular. He has a 3-0 record over four starts and five total appearances. His ERA sat at just 3.00. Additionally, Wiles walked just three batters and had 21 strikeouts.

The 6’ 4”, 222-pound right-hander was selected in the supplemental first round of the 2012 draft. He was picked 53rd overall. Wiles came from Blue Valley West High School, in Overland Park, Kansas. He led his High School team to a Class 6A state final in 2011, and was the Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year for 2011-2012.

This is his first season with the RoughRiders. Wiles has spent time with the AZL Rangers, Class-A Hickory, and Advanced-A High Desert.

As of the date of this release, Wiles has a season record of 3-1, with a 2.62 ERA. Over 43 2/3 innings, he has just five walks. In addition, he leads all Texas League starting pitchers in BB/9, at just 1.03. He also lands on the Texas League stat chart, at No. 9 in ERA and No. 5 in total innings pitched.

Expect Collin Wiles to continue to find success from the mound. With manager Joe Mikulik and pitching Coach Brian Shouse at the helm of his growth, there looks to be only upside for the young pitcher. The Texas Rangers are grooming him for Major League play, and there looks to be no doubt that Wiles can handle the pressure.
