The San Francisco 49ers acquired quarterback Colt McCoy  and a sixth-round pick in 2013 from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a fifth and seventh round pick. It’s a move that illustrates how weak the draft class is at the position in 2013 and a necessary move with Alex Smith getting traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.

As for McCoy he’ll get a chance to compete for the primary backup role. He started 21 games in three seasons with the Browns and went 6-15. Overall he played in 24 games completed 58.3 percent of his passes, thew for 4,388 yards, 21 touchdowns and 20 interceptions and averaged 10.7 yards per completion.

His best game of his career came in 2011 when he threw for 350 yards and a touchdown with one interception against the Tennessee Titans. Matched a career high with two touchdown passes five times and threw a career worse three interceptions twice once against the Baltimore Ravens and the other came against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Lost his role as starter before the 2012 season when Brandon Weeden got taken with the 22nd pick in the draft. Also, during his time with the franchise struggled with injuries including a concussion and one to his shoulder.

With the move it means two of the three quarterbacks on the roster have NFL starting experience.
